The small tester pot of foundation has been sat in the bottom of my make up bag for a while. I've finally gotten around to testing it out. Smashbox often give out free samples of their latest products and this was no different. There was no awkward testing or colour matching from the sales assistant. She took one look at my pale skin and handed me a sample of their foundation in Halo 02. Simple and easy just how I like it!
I used the foundation alongside the primer (also by Smashbox see my review here: Smashbox primer) which ensured that the foundation stayed put. The colour is a pale pink which is the perfect shade for me. I really like this foundation but the consistency of the formula makes it hard to blend onto the skin. When first applied it seems to stick on the face a little (although I'm not sure if this is because I've had it a while). It takes a little bit of effort to blend it properly otherwise stripy patches are left if you don't blend it.
Smashbox describe it as being a HD foundation that covers pigments and reflects light with its' unique technology. It felt like a mixture between gel and a liquid foundation but wasn't heavy on the skin. Unfortunately it doesn't provide 100% coverage as some blemishes are still noticeable. It retails at £29 for an oil free foundation with SPF 15. I read a few other reviews online who noted that they came out in spots or it left their skin shiny so it seems overpriced for what it actually offers. I liked the sample but it does provide minimal coverage at best. I prefer a lot more coverage and at a fraction of the cost I won't be replacing my AVON foundation just yet.
