I buy a lot of my make-up and skincare from the Cosmetics Fairy website. For those of you who aren't aware of it, it's an online retailer that offers discontinued products such as make-up, skincare or cosmetics at discounted prices. I've bought a lot from them and their prices vary including 25p for jewellery items, 99p for eye shadow and £1.99 for blusher.
I recently bought the Sally Hansen Simply Smooth Hair Removal cream from this website as a replacement for a previous hair removal product. The description promises that it will 'Work while you shower' and offers an 'Odourless Formula.' Sadly, I was disappointed with this product. The smell is very over-powering and unfortunately smells like all other hair removal products. As for working while you shower, you have to leave the product on the area between 5-10 minutes and cannot get it wet. I've found if you leave it on for the minimal amount of time (3-5 minutes), the hair is left behind. The pump bottle is somewhat impractical for this type of product as your hands become greasy after using the cream which makes it difficult to push the pump down.
I'm not a fan of products that offer a plastic spatula to remove the cream and I always use a dry cloth instead. (The spatula's are actually quite harsh on your skin and can scratch you). Although the product does take away unwanted hair and leaves you feeling smooth, hair growth returns a day later. The description however specifies six days of smoothness so this is very misleading.
I was really disappointed with this product as I had expected great things from it. The bottle is quite large at 383g and good value for money at £3.49, but unfortunately this product just does not do what it promises.
I recently tried this on my forerarms as a quicker alternative to hair removal. Although it took off all the hair away in 3 minutes, it also took most of my skin away. The formula is unfortunately too severe for sensitive skin and although I've used it on my legs, the skin on my arms must be thinner as I burnt patches of the skin. The areas were unfortunately very hot, sore and itchy so a good thick moisturiser is in order. I cannot reiterate enough that this is not suitable for areas other than your legs, but even then it doesn't take all of the hair away and leaves prickly stubble behind. Creams that are marketed for certain parts of the body are not suitable for other areas. Either the hair is more coarse on the legs and requires a stronger formula, or, the concentration of the formula is too severe for thin parts of the skin. This goes for face creams too as they cannot be used under the arms either as the hair on the face is much thinner.
P.S. I've also posted this review on the Cosmetics Fairy website so if you come across it I haven't copied someone else, it was me.
