I've had this product for about four years now, which I guess is a little gross but I'm really reluctant to throw it out. It's recommended that you throw out your moisturisers and makeup after 6 months to a year of opening them. The bacteria and dirt that collects within them must be enormous. But I'm always reluctant to throw things out that I've hardly used and this is one of those products.
Unfortunately I have very problematic and combination skin. I have an oily T-zone, dry patches across my cheeks and nose, and overall the skin on my face is very sensitive. As I've already mentioned in a previous review, I prefer to buy herbal products or those with plant extracts mixed in. So when I saw the Botanics Day Shift Plant Extracts Moisturiser, I had to buy it. The label on the front of the product hooked me in as the moisturiser is packed with 'Rice Bran Protein and Honey.'
I bought it around about the same time as the Olay moisturiser from Boots but I hardly ever use this as the Olay one is so good. I think I paid around £6 for it at the time which I thought was a lot to pay but it has lasted a while.
I'm happy to admit to anyone that I wear a lot of makeup to cover up my spots, but my skin begins to dry out throughout the day because my skin can't breathe as there's a build up of product sitting on top of the skin. Ultimately, my spots start drying out underneath the makeup layer and my skin begins to crack and eventually looks quite patchy. The Olay moisturiser can only work its' wonders so far and then I have to have a back up.
Although it specifies that it is a day moisturiser, it's very greasy and thick so I like to slather it on before bed. That way it can properly sink into the skin and combat the dry patches. It smells really natural and organic which I love. The product comes in a small glass jar with a tin lid so aesthetically it's quite appealing if you were to display it. Like I said I've had this years and only ever use it when my face is really dry so a 50ml tub lasts a long time. With the honey extract the product is quite gloopy and thick so you don't need a lot of it as it is really greasy. If I'm going to bed straight after using it I don't mind using loads on my face. The product works instantly to combat dryness and I rarely have to use it.
I used to use it as a moisturising primer but felt that my skin couldn't breathe whenever I used makeup on top. It gives a nice dewy glow to the face if you use it as a primer, but personally, I'm not one for the shiny look.
